We carry the best quality
basswood, maple burl, Italian poplar and other fine woods that are perfect for woodburning, carving,
turning or whatever!!!
The maple burls come from
the Big Leaf Maples in the pacific northwest and we get a great variety
suitable for burning, carving, painting, etc. We also have some
exotic wood utensil blanks that people just love to carve. Al made
me one and it took me months to finally agree to use it for cooking and I
just love it. Now I have a variety of his carved spoons, spatula's
and rice paddles!
We have a great variety of
basswood products. All are carvers quality, clear, fine-sanded and
kiln dried. We carry basswood
bark boards; plaques in a variety of shapes and size. We try to get all
winter-cut basswood but as the season progresses supplies of winter cut
basswood starts to dwindle so it's a case of supply and demand. So
far we have been very lucky and all our basswood has been winter-cut.
Winter-cut basswood is a better quality, clearer, light (white), bark does
not fall off readily and it is easier to carve and burn. Most craft
basswood such as Walnut Hollow is summer cut. It is darker, has more
flaws and bark falls off readily.
We also carry soft maple plaques
in a variety of sizes suitable for carving and burning. Soft maple is
harder than Basswood. It does take longer to burn but provides
clean, crisp detail. Grain in the wood provides more character and
personality to burnings than the plain white of basswood.
Alan is now making blanks
such as bread and cheese boards, napkin holders, cross blanks and some
carving blanks.
