Sawdust Connection carries a
variety of wood such as basswood, maple and Italian poplar suitable for woodburning, chip carving, wood carving, wood
turning and other crafts.
When Nedra started burning she was
not happy with the quality of the Walnut Hollow basswood found in
craft stores and many woodcraft shops so she searched all over the the best
quality basswood and plywood for burning her projects. When she started
teaching classes it was imperative that she have suitable materials for her
students to use in classes. We have finally found some great sources for
wood, both for the items we make ourselves (napkin holders, bread board, cheese
boards, etc) and for the raw boards used in classes.
All of the wood products we make,
bark boards and Italian poplar are primarily used by Nedra herself and in her
classes. We do make these items available on our website but prices are higher due to the high cost of shipping.
Northern
basswood bark boards are kiln dried, clear, light (almost white) colored, thick, sanded, northern
basswood. These are winter cut (white and bark that does not easily fall
off) and do not have black marks on them like the Walnut Hollow! For more
information on basswood, please go to our page on
materials
and safety. These bark board planks are the finest quality you
will find.
Northern basswood plaques
are northern basswood, kiln dried, thick and fine sanded.
Soft maple plaques
which are a harder wood than basswood but it is still soft enough to make it
easy to burn yet give you crisp details.
Italian poplar is a plywood
that is cream colored (our new supplier carries better quality that is almost
free of any spalting and we try to hand-pick every sheet) and has a very fine grain that is good for woodburning
or scroll saw projects. We carry it in 1/8" thickness, 3-ply, which is
perfect for framing.
Hand-made wood holders,
bread & cheese boards and blanks made from basswood, maple and birch. These items
made by us and are perfect for carving, burning and other crafts. Please

wood blank page.
