Colwood has been making woodburning tools since 1979.
They are manufactured in the U.S.A and still are a
family-owned business. No longer the sole province of the duck and bird carvers,
woodburners are now being used by gourd artists and flat burners.
We sell the Detailer single output woodburner and the Super Pro II
their dual output woodburner.
Steve and Rich who have taken over the business from
their father have made some very positive changes since I owned my first
woodburner (a Colwood Super Pro II) back in 1999. They recognized that
there was a need to refine their woodburning tips and handpieces to meet
the needs of pyrographic and gourd artists who spend more time
working with their tools, preferred the comfort of the foam grips and the
ease of burning and cleaning polished tips. They heard our cries and
they responded and I thank them for it!
Many of our customers are looking for more
economical detail burners. People who want a detail burner but who can't
afford higher end burners. We struggled for some time to
find the right company to fit with our business philosophy - a company with
great customer service, great products and a company with the same values
we stand by. I know I complained about the Colwood pens when I owned
my burner many years ago but with the great new changes they have made to improve them
to meet the needs of the people we cater to it was time to talk to them.
I was pleased with what they had to say and I agreed
to buy one of their units and some pens to put it through the test.
If all worked out to my satisfaction I would use it for my new book and
carry some of their products. Rich worked with me to meet
my needs with pen tip styles and precise polishing to my specifications.
I am so please now to be able to offer our customers
great burners and pens at very affordable prices...and I get to do my
latest book with my new Super Pro II.
Buying the right burner and PENS
Buying a woodburner can be
overwhelming. There are so many brands on the market, so many options,
warranties, etc. We want to make your buying experience pleasurable and we
want to be sure that you have the right burner and tools for your needs and
budget.
If you are
unsure of which burner or pens to choose, please
contact Nedra to
discuss your specific needs.
Colwood Burning Pens
We recommend and primarily
sell fixed-tip pens, which are recommended
for general pyrography use. Replaceable-tips are normally recommended
for only intermittent light use such as for enhancing carvings.
So, I will be
carrying the replaceable tips in the styles more commonly used by
woodcarvers and the styles more commonly used by pyrographers and gourd
artists will be available in fixed-tip styles.
NEW PEN STYLES:
Colwood has been working with me to
make my favorite pen styles so I now have the regular and small version of
the bent spear shader; 5XS, S, M spear and most exciting are the new ball
tips. Go to our
Colwood Pen store to check them out!
The new Colwood fixed-tip
pens with foam grips are now just as comfortable to use as Razertip and
Optima and with the polished tips you won't be able to tell the difference
except for the great lower prices. These are the most durable tips available with pre-sharpened and highly polished nichrome tips, ready to go right out of the package. Shorter length tips allow you
to get closer to your work and have more control. The
foam pen grips are soft and comfortable and no scorched fingers.
